Will a Dumpster Damage My Driveway?

Will a Dumpster Damage My Driveway?

A roll-off container concentrates a lot of weight on small steel rollers. Placed on boards, it rarely leaves a mark. Placed bare — especially on summer-soft asphalt or decorative pavers — it can. Here's how we prevent it, and how you can help.

The board method

We set every container on boards that spread the load across a wider footprint and keep the rollers off your surface. It's standard practice on every delivery, not an upgrade.

Surface by surface

  • Concrete: the most forgiving — boards still go down.
  • Asphalt: heat softens it; in July and August, boards are non-negotiable and a shaded spot helps.
  • Pavers and stamped concrete: boards plus a plywood layer for high-value surfaces — tell us when you book.
  • Gravel: fine, expect the box to settle slightly.
  • Grass/soil: possible in dry weather; after rain, expect ruts from any truck, ours included.

Your checklist

  • Clear the spot and the approach (about 60 ft, 23–25 ft overhead)
  • Move cars the night before
  • Flag sprinkler heads and septic lids near the placement area
  • Tell us the surface when you call
